How to Launch Search Engine Marketing For Your Business

Search engine marketing will give your business a competitive advantage. The majority of internet users search the web every day as a means of locating information quickly, easily, and reliably. Billions of search requests are made through search engines and directories every day. Search engine marketing is not only an effective online marketing tool, it is also a cost efficient way to promote your business compared to traditional methods.

Search Engine Marketing

Search engine marketing, also known as (SEM), is internet marketing that promotes websites by increasing visibility in search engine result pages (SERPs). This is typically done through paid placement, contextual advertising, or paid inclusion. The largest Search Engine Marketing (SEM) vendors are Google AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing and Microsoft adCenter.

Paid Placement

Paid placement, also known as Pay Per Click (PPC), is internet advertising in which advertisers pay a fixed price per click to the host company only when their advertisement is clicked. Some advertisers participate in keyword phrase bidding to target their market.
Paid placement, also includes Cost per click (CPC), this is internet advertising in which the advertiser pays search engines and other internet publishers for direct clicks on advertisements that redirect visitors to their website.

Contextual advertising

Contextual advertising is targeted advertising that appears on website, other media, or mobile web browsers. The advertisements are selected by automated systems based on the content displayed. The automated system scans the text on a website for keywords and returns advertisements based on hat the user is viewing. For example, if a user is visiting a page that has articles about software, a contextual advertisement for software such as QuickBooks or Microsoft Office may appear on the page within the content, as a pop-up, or as a contextual hyperlink. Google AdSense is the major contextual advertising program. Others include the Yahoo! Publisher Network, Microsoft adCenter, and Ad-in-Motion.

Paid Inclusion

Paid inclusion, also known as Pay for Inclusion (PFI) or Pay Per Inclusion (PPI), is when advertisers pay search engine companies to have their sites indexed faster, rather than waiting on search engines to find and index the sites. Paid inclusion does not help the site rank better in search engine results. Paid inclusion includes search engines such as MSN, HotBot, AlltheWeb, Lycos, Teoma, Ask Jeeves, AltaVista, and Yahoo.

Link Building

Link Building is when website owners, also known as advertisers, build reciprocal links with other sites. Search engines use link analysis as a way to determine the value and relevance of your site to what people are using or looking for. Building quality links from relevant sources can improve your sites search engine rankings as well as drive more targeted traffic to your site.

Here are some easy ways to get links to your site:

1. Submit your site to online Directories
2. Start a blog with vendors such as (WordPress, Blogger, or TypePad).
3. Become a content Expert on other sites such as Squidoo, HubPages, or Helium.
4. Add links to Social Media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, StumbleUpon, or SocialPoster.
5. Make useful comments on other blogs, forums, and social media posts.
