Question by World Traveler: I’m looking for computer OS, games and applications that are geared toward people with mental retardation.?
My aunt has mild mental retardation and while she can use a computer to play games and look at and print pictures with little help if any at all, i’ve found that versions of windows after xp are more difficult for her to use. I’m wondering if there exist a more stripped down, easier to use OS with a GUI similar to Windows 98, XP? I thought about using Ubuntu Linux or some other distribution but i’m not really familiar with linux in the first place. But before I go into changing OS altogether i’d like to see if there is software on the market that is more user friendly for people with disabilities as i have not been able to find much information on the internet?

a Knoppix Linux or Ubuntu Linux have simple GUIs and they are easy to put on a virtual machine to test

if you make big enough desktop shortcuts it makes it soo much simpler to use

I’ve noticed that knoppix has funner and more colorful games than the windows like a type of puzzle-bubble, a version of super mario and lemmings (if my memory serves me correctly)

(Ubuntu has thinking games like mahjongg, tetris, solitaire, mines… even a version of snake …I just checked that)

try virtualbox if you just want to test an OS… that way you don’t have to format a PC
