Question by umamu: Would learning Orcle DBA help an undergraduate person at the age 50 to mould a career?
How learning software skills for example Oracle, at the age of 50 will help a person without much educational qualifications. Say he is qualified only shcool final but possess good skills in handling computer rather a computer savy. Experience in marketing for over 28 years. If not Orcale, please suggest any other software skills that would practically help him.

If you want to go down the DBA track, get certified as an Oracle DBA.

I am looking for a career change to software. I am good in communication & aptitude. Also i am going to complete my Post Graduate Degree in Marketing management (Distance Education)
1. Is software Testing /QA is promising career?
2. Software development, if so what programming i need to concentrate, for successful career change!
3. If either of them not so reality for me, Can i successful transisition to Software Vending or Distribution or marketing!..
Please kindly your honest answers.(Currently I am an educational counsellor)

1. Yeah, it can be quite good!
2. Can be painful. Go with something open, rather than something with vendor lock-in.
3. Marketing is also a little hectic, but would probably be best for you.

I have a degree in marketing and graduate work in same.I have certificates in computer information systems.

Weel firstly, you need to identify the area you want to go into. Software engineering is a huge field, covering (really basically) everything from accounting applications (think banks and then databases) to computer gaming and CG graphical applications.

Once you have decided which area, do some research and determione the most appropriate languages and skills that employers will look for.

From there, if you are still interested, a graduate course or diploma will teach you the basics, then find an employer how wants a newbie and learn from the ground up, in this industry there is no bigger skill than experience.
