Or are you new to the web designing field and you’re just starting out? Whatever be the case with you, there are many others who are still in the dark when it comes to knowing about the website designing industry. Website designs are the most crucial part of a particular website and without good designs, it is almost impossible for the website owners to attract people to their sites and increase their traffic. You probably must be having numerous questions as a newcomer, irrespective of the amount of knowledge that you already have. Read on to boost your knowledge on the website designing industry and set a strong foot into the new world.

    * A portfolio is the ultimate way to success

A portfolio is necessary for every web designer to showcase his abilities. If you can’t even ensure yourself with a good portfolio, how can you even dream of instilling confidence within your clients that they will thrust their projects on you? Put lots of efforts to build a good portfolio that will speak for you. This will help you gain the maximum number of visitors to your website and ensure maximum profits.

    * Create blogs and use it as a path to recognition

The most popular trend at the moment is blogging. Blogs are something that is easy to create and maintain. Having a blog may work to your favor and also support your credibility to connect with your customers. Blogs are nothing but an online diary or a journal. The prospective web designers could easily use the blogs to promote their portfolio as web designers. It is a good way to increase the search engine rankings and help you get recognized as a good designer.

    * Unblock all the creative blocks

Web designers are also susceptible to some form of creative block. Even though you’re a newcomer into the website designing industry, you should always look forward to boosting your creativity and coming up with designs that were unseen by the experienced designers. The internet can be a massive library for you and it can be utilized in creating better ideas and implementing them while creating website designs.

The website designing industry is a huge machine and without taking the perfect steps, it is almost impossible to achieve your dream of becoming an established designer. Though it is a fact that nothing is impossible, yet nothing is easy as it may seem to be. Follow the tips mentioned above and make sure you set a strong base in the website designing industry.

Question by Fd A: Job Market for Computer Science Majors?
I am a 3rd year Computer Science major from University of Virginia. I have been doing some research on the state of our tech industry lately. The trouble is, there’s too much conflicting information on the Internet. On one hand, I see article after article showing that computer science majors will be among the most sought after graduates over the next decade. On the other hand, there are countless reports about rampant offshoring of computer related jobs ( both the low level IT and high level software development) and how our wages will be severely lowered due to competition from people from India who work for $ 8000 a year. I would love to hear the opinions of people who are employed in (or have been laid off from) computer related industries on this issue.

Best answer:

Answer by Fowler Fan
I think it really depends on where you are. I’m up in Canada, near Toronto, and the death of the North American developer is way overblown if you ask me. We’ve been looking for good people forever, and have gone through too many bad ones. We still offer very good wages, and can’t find the people we want – all the good ones are still employed with their current employers.

I’ve heard of some outsourcing to India, but that’s only from large companies, and they’re not overly happy with the experience.

If someone nearby said they want to pursue development in university, I would tell them to go right ahead.

Big-name business applications vendors—Microsoft, Oracle, Lawson and (on the
business intelligence front) Cognos each made a splash with new software
announcements at the National Retail Federation’s Big Show event in New York on
Jan. 16.
The bevy of new offerings could help businesses in the retail sector move forward
with electronic initiatives.
Microsoft, for example, announced the 2.0 version of its Dynamics POS (Point of
Sale) suite of software aimed at making it easier for retailers to extend their
storefront online with such functionality as online invoicing and the ability to link to
PayPal and eBay marketplace selling.
POS 2.0 also offers roles-based design and integrates with Microsoft Office
Accounting Professional 2007 software.
For smaller retailers—and in conjunction with First Data and HP—Microsoft also
announced an out-of-the-box POS and payment suite that is designed to replace a
cash register and dial-up connection to the Internet with a PC-based POS sys

Question by Amanda M: Is there anything wrong with my Resume?
I’m not getting any responses to the Emails I have been sending for jobs through Craigslist. I know the market is BAD but I just want to make sure that my resume is okay, and its not turning off employers.

Here is the Email I send to potential jobs.

Question by wmarie: How to record & watch tv on my laptop?
Okay, I want to use my laptop to record tv shows and such. BUT, I am completely confused by all of the products that are on the market and I find it extremely difficult to decide exactly what I need.

Here’s what I have:
A HP pavilion dv6000 entertainment notebook
wireless internet/router
Windows Vista
Here’s where it gets confusing: My family has Charter cable in every room in our house. But the only room with a box is in the den. The rest of the rooms just have “extended basic” cable and we connect with a coaxial cable in the back of the TV.

I would prefer to have whatever device I buy located in my bedroom, so what would I need to be compatible with just the coaxial connection? Or, would it be better just connect to the box in the den? But then, would it interfere with the den’s TV in any way? And would my computer have to be in the den?

My laptop came with preloaded software to work with a product called a Slingbox. Would the cable in my room be compatible with this? Here’s a link: http://www.slingmedia.com/go/slingbox-solo-connections

I know it’s a lot, but please help me out! What all do I need, and what would ya’ll suggest?

Best answer:

Answer by Karz
You just need a TV tuner so that you could connect to CATV coax.

Question by Cute is What Brandon Aims For: Tor + flash drive = winner?
Yes, I am asking a question about bypassing my school’s internet filter (St. Bernard iPrism).
Please read the following if you intend to answer my question:
-No, I do not plan to bypass so I can access MySpace/Facebook/etc. Spare me the lecture, please.
-Yes, I do understand the consequences if I get caught.
-No, I do not want to use a web proxy. Do not give me a link to “the newest proxy” that works. iPrism employs one of the most advanced web filtering technologies on the market, and your cheap web proxy will be blocked within days.

I intend to use this to further my ability of writing essays at school. Specifically – while iPrism is advanced, it’s also overzealous. It sometimes blocks sites that are completely legit, and some of the sites contain vital information for essays, research papers, etc. Also: have you ever tried to print a picture for a poster, or maybe find an image for your PowerPoint presentation at school? You can’t when your school’s proxy software blocks Image Searching, and most all images, period.

On to my question (and it’s a simple one, too!): If I install the Tor browser package onto my flash drive, and boot it at school, will I be able to circumvent this ridiculous censorship and finally get some work done?

Best answer gets a prompt choice, and your points.

And may I say,
Thank you very much for the help.

Best answer:

Answer by ◊⇧Vergil⇧◊ 902
i don’t know iPrism’s infrastructure so i can’t say for sure, not much you can do but try it and see what happens

Question by Taylor: Palm Treo 800w vs. Blackberry: Which Really is Better?
I was hoping that there might be some really technologically-masterful, kind-hearted people out there who could finally shed some bright light on this subject. I work for a law firm that subscribes to Sprint (we get to keep the phones we choose, even if we leave the firm). While the firm will pay for the service, we must pick up the tab for the phone. In my case, that means $ 249.00. This PDA-type smartphone is/will be my first and I had to make the transition to a PDA-type smartphone because I was strongly advised by ALL of the people in my office that a smartphone would make my job (and life) much more manageable.

So, I called Sprint and spoke to a representative. I explained my needs and the rep recommended the Treo 800w because it was released only a week earlier and was one the “top-of-the-line phones on the market.” I asked about Blackberry, but he said the Treo 800w would be better than the Blackberry Curve for my purposes. I have the option to send it right back within 30 days – no questions asked – in exchange for any other phone in Sprint’s lineup. The Treo 800w just happens to be the most expensive in Sprint’s lineup, so I have the option to choose any other phone they carry. To make a long story even longer, I ordered the 800w despite advice from cazed, impassioned Blackberry and Palm Treo fans in my office. I just chose to order the 800w (and have now had it for 2 1/2 weeks) because it was the most recently released and because the rep told me it was superior to the Blackberry Curve, for my needs. I list my requirements below with the hope that some really super-mega-knowledgable good souls can provide me and others with some really sound advice.

So the following are the most important features to me on a PDA-type smartphone:

(1) fast, reliable, and genuinely useful internet service on the road;
(2) the ability to generate documents from the device itself;
(3) reliable and accurate GPS, and
(4) a good camera with video functionality since I often need it to take pictures and/or videos in connection with my work.

Now, lemmee just finally tell ya’all about my experience with this phone in the past 2 1/2 weeks so I can determine whether I got “a piece,” whether I just need to spend more time with this thing and learn how to use it (yes, I’ve read the manual), or whether I should send it back for a Blackberry.

I post this long question with the hope that the answers will help many others in the same position who must rely on devices such as this one to make life a little less chaotic and to make a living.

I have now been using the Palm Treo 800w for approximately 2 1/2 weeks and have observed that while it was initially and still is fairly difficult to use with regard to the features and functions of the phone (hardware and software), it appears to be an extremely feature-rich phone that works well and quickly, but learning how to use it proficiently seems to be a pain.

The primary difficulty with the phone seems to be maneuvering the complicated Microsoft Mobile Pro 6.1 operating system which many claim is more adaptable and easier to use in professional networking than Blackberries. I know nothing on this topic, so I defer to the experts that will respond. While I am fairly proficient in computers, I have no clue as to how that translates into smartphones. It just seems that performing any simple function on this phone isn’t so simple and requires too many steps. AND, the multiple steps a user has to perform to utilize the function he/she needs to acccess leave programs running in the background which must be closed to maintain the operational efficiency of the system. Also, if people find this bit of information important, the 800w speaker produces horrible sound in my opinion and crackles more than a bowl of Rice Krispies in ice cold milk.

Since this is my first smart phone, I’d like to know whether this is just part of the natural transition from a small flip-type cell phone to a smartphone, or whether Mircrosoft Mobile 6.1 Pro on the Treo 800w is worth the effort to learn. Also, is one really technically better (as between the Treo 800w and Blackberry Curve) or more likely to be more-widely used by industry in the future?

Thanks a bunch in advance for any well-informed information regarding this issue. I hope some of the information discussed in this posting will be helpful to others who have to make a living using these phones. Thanks again for reading!!!

Thanks so much for your responses thus far. Alas, after spending almost 3 weeks with the Treo 800w, I have concluded that it is simply to difficult to use. Even if one reads through the manual (as I have) and is somewhat technically savvy (as I am), this operating system just needs to made more simple. Additionally, the speaker on the phone distorts and crackles sound, there is no flash, battery life is extremely poor, and the lack of a conventional 3.5mm jack for a conventional earphone/headset really makes matters even more difficult. This phone is indeed feature-rich and has remarkable capabilities, but if one is not able to use those functions efficiently, then the entire utility of the phone is diminished. I’d still like to hear any additional comments regarding the 800w, but for my part, I think I am going to return/exchange it for the Blackberry Curve 8330.
Hello there, and thanks so much for taking the time to write. How long have you had your 800w? My dilemma is really the following in the simplest terms. I like the form factor (appearance) of the 800w, and it appears, strictly from a technical specification standpoint, that the 800w is superior. While the Treo has more memory (256MB) than the BB Curve, better resolution, document programs (MS Word), independent Wifi, and yes, the stylus, which I actually like as well, the BB Curve just seems easier to use. However, after having read through the 800w manual and actually having used it “out in the field” for almost a month, I still find it extremely frustrating to operate. For me, the configuration of the MS Mobile 6.1 system on the 800w is not intuitive. My other issues are some more basic: crackling speaker at high levels, lack of an earphone jack, lack of a flash (which can often be used as a flashlight), and voice dialing issues. I hope this info helps others. Thanks!
